This New Horror Film Is Now Streaming, and It Might Make or Break Your Relationship.

We present a test for long-term couples who are fans of horror films: Settle in with your partner and stream Together. This critically acclaimed 2025 movie recently had its streaming debut via Hulu. On the surface, it might appear like typical biological terror, but inside Together exists a deep examination about how we choose to love one another.

A Debut Feature Exploring The Nuances of Love

Together represents the first full-length movie for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It stars the real-life married couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie as a couple named Tim and Millie, a pair who are not married that have remained a couple for over ten years. Having wed in reality in 2017, the actors contribute a particular energy to their characters, masterfully depicting both the good and bad of a long-term relationship.

The narrative begins when the couple transition from the urban environment to the countryside for her career. A familiar narrative setup, admittedly, but that’s mostly where the cliches conclude. Together evolves into as much a deep dive into the psyche of the couple's dynamic as it is a movie featuring biological frights.

A Supernatural Catalyst

While trekking near their country house, a tempest descends, and the two fall into an hole in the earth. After being trapped overnight there and managing to escape, a supernatural entity takes hold of the couple. This force creates a otherworldly bond between them that goes far beyond simple connection.

The whole movie is a gradually intensifying of scares, interspersing moments of dreamlike terrors, disturbing (but tastefully done) physical transformations, and authentically humorous dialogue (sometimes amidst something horrific). The director weaves these elements together neatly and presents them in a slowly mounting atmosphere of fear.

Layered Performances

A significant portion of Together is solely Brie and Franco, and they deftly portray countless layers to the partnership at the film's core. Her self-assurance and feeling of intimacy is waning due to a distance. Her subconscious resentment of Tim for his unwillingness to focus on anything other than his floundering music career slowly bubbles to the surface.

Conversely, Tim feels trapped and separated by Millie, who’s the cause they’ve moved to the country and removed from his support system. He dreads the idea of completely losing his sense of self in Millie. This fear is further exacerbated by the fact he can’t drive and needs Millie for getting around.

The film's most intelligent aspect is that he never makes one partner or the other the clear bad guy.

Tim and Millie confront the sort of issues that arise in long-term unions after ten years. Deep down, they still love one another. They share moments of joy, offer support, and share intimately at times. But under the surface, there’s an inescapable feeling of questioning about their relationship.

Allegory and Meaning

While the paranormal elements in Together represent these fears of excessive reliance and fully committing to another person, the symbolism never feels hamfisted or heavy-handed. Instead, these visceral horror elements present a ideal counterpart to the relationship narrative. Both the horror and the drama serve the other symbiotically.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s ending, which won’t be spoiled here, has sparked debate on the story's concluding statement about codependent relationships. Accounts suggest that single viewers have interpreted the film as a powerful case for remaining unattached. On the other hand, certain partners having disagreements found that the film ended up guiding them to resolve their issues.

Regardless of your relationship status, your own reaction could act as a telling indicator of how you view relationships. Will the ending sow a sense of discomfort and fear, or a uplifting feeling of optimism? Will you identify in one of the characters and feel frustration, or simply glance toward your partner and utter, “I’d do that for you”?

No matter your reaction, Together is an test you can embark on at this very moment.

Together is available to watch on Hulu's platform at present.
